Oh that’s right…Ford is still in this movie. I didn’t really even miss him. Short version: the train has lost power, the boy is scared, Ford reassures him.
Now we’re at a random hotel. A little girl wanders away from her parents, towards the open sea, and they don’t even notice. Sigh. The girl is the first to notice that she can see all kinds of assorted sea life appearing on land as the water pulls back. Finally, dad turns around, sees the same thing, grabs the girl, and runs. Shouts of “Run!” and “Tsunami” punctuate the screaming.
Godzilla surges up out of the ocean, displacing enough water to flood Honolulu. People run. People yell. People scramble into buildings. Power flickers back on at the airport and there is the MUTO hanging out right above the train tracks, mouth wide open, ready to devour the cars as they slip into his jaws. Passengers are sliding to their deaths down the aisle of the now-vertical train; Ford loses his grip but catches himself. The little boy also loses his hold, but Ford catches him just in time. Godzilla, in all his glory, attacks the MUTO, who decides the train snack isn’t worth it and flutters off.
Ford’s family’s update in a nutshell: Sam sees footage on the news, “look, Mommy, dinosaurs!” Elle looks concerned. And….scene.
