Ford is finally displaying his injuries, but he insists he can disarm that bomb in 30 seconds. Of course he can. So here is the new plan: A team is going to parachute into the downtown area (without getting grabbed by a monster), find the bomb, defuse it, then double-time it to a random boat, load the nuke, boat it out to the sea, hopefully luring all three monsters, zzzzzzzzz. Yeah, I just can’t maintain interest in this plan.
During the jump, the major monster fighting finally begins. Godzilla is pummeling the he-MUTO and doing quite well until she-MUTO shows up and they gang up on him. In the meantime, the soldiers acquired the nuke from the nest but they need tools to disarm it. They didn’t foresee that the bomb might damaged and therefore require some tools? Off to the boat they go, hoping for the tools they need to continue the plan.
The MUTOs are really beating up on Godzilla by now. It’s kind of sad. I have to say, I think these monster brawls would be so much more exciting if the scenes weren’t shot almost entirely in grayscale. It’s nighttime, the buildings being crushed are just gray dust, there is gray fog, and the monsters are pretty much gray. Maybe there’s some good reason for that effect, but I wouldn’t have minded at least one little tussle out in a bright sunny meadow.
Godzilla appears to be on his way out, but then all of a sudden he summons up his strength, lightning-blue flashes all through his scales, and then he opens his mouth and roars blue flames right at she-MUTO. He-MUTO does not appreciate that and jumps on Godzilla to defend her honor.
